Yankees GM's Daughter Gracie Cashman Dishes on Engagement From Fireball Shots to Her Grandmother's Ring

Gracie CashmanDaughter of New York Yankees GM Brian Cashmanwas surprised by a marriage proposal that really knocked it out of the park.

“I knew his family was in town for his little sister’s birthday,” she said. “He told me we were going to brunch and then dinner. I thought we spent the weekend with his family, so I had no plans. He said we should have brunch. Had to stop at a bakery to get a birthday cake before. On the way there, we didn’t go to a bakery, we went to a theater that I had never been to.

Gracie continued, “When we walked in, it was completely empty. The stage and everything. He walked me up on stage, got down on one knee and asked me to marry him.

The location of the proposal was chosen by Stute for a specific reason, dating back to his days at St. Luke’s School in New Canaan, Connecticut.

After the proposal, both families—including Gracie’s parents, who are divorced, and brother, Teddy — emerged and posed for photos with the newly engaged couple before the entire crew loaded into a trolley — “a very Chicago thing,” Gracie joked — filled with fireball shooters.

“We were laughing,” Gracie recalled, “because on the trolley we were all like, ‘Oh my God, it’s 11 in the morning, but should we do fireball shots? Sure.'”

“She died when I was 2. My mom had her engagement ring and she let my boyfriend use it,” Gracie said.
