Will Smith opened to Trevor Noah about a famous slap now at the Oscars in March during the appearance that was broadcast on Monday night on “The Daily Show”.
While promoting his upcoming movie, “EMANCPATION”, Smith called “a horrific night” and said he “lost” when he broke into the theater and slapped Lt. Col. Chris Rock.
“I think what I will say, you just never know what someone is going through,” Smith said. “I was going to something that night. This is not justifying my behavior at all.”
Smith said that what was painful to him was that his actions made it “difficult for others.”
He said: “It seems as if I understood the idea of the place where they say that people hurt people.”
“That was angry that was really mobilized for a long time,” Smith said.
Noah pointed out how Smith wrote in his memoirs about his upbringing, afraid of the conflict, as the dialogue programs pointed out to the negative things that were said about Smith and his family on the Internet.
“It was a lot of things,” Smith said in response. “It was the young boy who saw his father hitting his mother, as you know. All this started at that moment.”
“I don’t want to be,” said Smith.
In July, Smith addressed the slap and issued a general apology on social media.
The Smith Academy penalties, by banning the attendance of the Oscars, over the next ten years.
