Timothée Chalamet on role of Bob Dylan at Gotham Awards

Timothée Chalamet seems to deem the role of Bob Dylan as one of his “greatest” so far, in terms of learning as a “young artist.”

The rising star received the prestigious Visionary Tribute honour at the 2024 Gotham Awards, held on Monday, December 2, at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City.

The 28-year-old actor was recognized for his portrayal of Bob Dylan in the biopic A Complete Unknown.

The film’s director and co-writer, James Mangold, shared the honour.

In his acceptance speech, Chalamet reflected on the importance of the project and expressed gratitude to those who contributed to his journey.

“I promised myself I’d keep it short and sweet because Bob Dylan was a man of few words,” he began.

Chalamet thanked his collaborators and insisted on the role of those present at the ceremony, saying, “I’m looking out here, and I see a lot of people that have helped shape the man I’m becoming, the artist I’m becoming.”

Oscar Isaac, who presented the award, received a heartfelt mention from Chalamet.

Calling his Dune co-star “a man who I’ve tried to shape myself after,” Chalamet expressed admiration and appreciation for him in his acceptance speech.

Speaking about the biopic, Chalamet highlighted the meaningful impact of embodying Dylan’s world.

“Getting to study and immerse myself in the world of Bob Dylan has been the greatest education a young artist could receive,” he said.

He also described the film as a potential introduction to Dylan for new audiences, calling him “one of the great poets and chroniclers of our times.”
