TikTok said on Friday that the social media platform will “cease operations” on Sunday without a “final” guarantee from the Biden administration that its ban will not be implemented.
“The statements issued today by both the Biden White House and the Department of Justice fail to provide the necessary clarity and assurance to the service providers who are integral to maintaining the availability of TikTok for more than 170 million Americans,” TikTok said in a statement posted on its website. X.
She continued: “Unless the Biden administration immediately provides a final statement to satisfy the most critical service providers to ensure non-implementation, unfortunately, TikTok will be forced to stop operating on January 19.”
The White House said earlier this week that Biden does not plan to enforce the ban scheduled to take effect on Sunday, adding that the matter is up to President-elect Trump, who takes office on Monday.

The US Supreme Court on Friday upheld a law banning TikTok unless Chinese-owned ByteDance sells it by Sunday, citing national security risks due to its ties to China.
Trump said he needed to review the ban before making his decision.
He said, “The Supreme Court’s decision was expected and everyone should respect it.” “My decision on TikTok will be made in the not too distant future, but I should have time to review the situation. Stay tuned!”
During the presidential campaign, Trump said he would “never ban TikTok” after joining the platform.
Also on Friday, TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew thanked Trump for his “commitment to working with us to find a solution that keeps TikTok available in the United States. This is a strong position in favor of the First Amendment and against arbitrary censorship.”
Chiu is expected to attend the inauguration ceremony on Monday.
Trump tried to ban TikTok during his first term in office.
