voice Winner Jason “Sundance” Head Breaking his silence on the accident that almost killed him.
Sundance, a country singer who won the NBC singing competition series in 2016, released a video statement via Facebook on Monday, Nov. 18, days after his .22 gun went off and his Shot in the “navel area”. He was in his car at the time and was airlifted to hospital.
“I wanted to come and tell you guys that I’m still alive, thankfully,” Sundance told her fans. “Thank you to the good Lord above and the wonderful first responders as well as the trauma team [The University of Texas at Tyler]. They did a wonderful job and they really kept me alive. I was sure I was going to die. It was one of the craziest things that ever happened to me.”
He explained that he would “explain more on this,” apparently at a later date.
“I’ve got a wonderful story to tell you about it,” he added, “if there’s anything to marvel at and come away with something positive.”
On Friday, November 15, Sundance’s wife, Mistytook to Facebook to explain what happened to her husband.
“It was not his hunting rifle and no one shot him,” he wrote in a status update. “He was getting out of the car to grab his .22 when he grabbed it, the .22 came out of its holster and just hit the outside of the Jeep and went off.”
He continued, “Sundance said it happened very fast and he could see the bullet go off. I thought he called 911. He didn’t — he put the phone in his pocket right after impact. Hands down but the phone wasn’t full of blood so he pulled the car down the driveway to the main road. After 10 cars down for help someone called 911 .
In his Monday message, Sundance said he was “in a lot of pain” and still had a bullet in him.
“I’m not sure what’s going to happen,” he shared. “All I know is that I didn’t die yesterday and I have another chance to live.”
He recalled that he was “bleeding” and “there was no one to help me. I had about a dozen cars pass him. [saw] Me and [made] Eye contact was made and they didn’t stop. They just kept walking. I’m telling you … I was at the end of my rope.
But then, “some gentlemen turned around” and helped him get medical attention.
“I want to tell you honestly that I love you and I am so grateful that you were in my life at this time.”
Sundance was released from the hospital on Saturday, November 16. On Facebook, Misty wrote that the 3-hour drive home was difficult for her because the meds had worn off and she was moving so much that her dressing was bleeding. Note that he was only in a hospital gown, all his clothes were in the field.
He continued, “We made it home. [and] I was able to change the dressing and clean and repack even though he was not an easy patient and gave him some motrin.
