Chicago (CBS) Malik Yusef was nominated in Chicago Grammy Award This year of his spoken poetic album.
Yusef did not win this time. It was also not the first time in Yusef in Grammys – away from it, with eight Grammy wins and 44 filters.
But it was still the absolute suspense of South Side, who led his first passion for poetry to the art of spoken word.
“I live a dream beyond my dream,” said Yoseer.
CBS News Chicago caught with Yusef before the awards ceremony on Sunday night. Inside Agriculture Custom Clothier in 67 W. Chicago Ave. – Which attracts athletes in the American Professional League, NFL, Crooners R&b, and other auditors – Yusef chose the perfect costume to walk on the Grammy red carpet.
He explained the tradition of the spoken word.
“The spoken word is old. It is the crime. It is the way people are going through information through generations – and they made it attractive,” said Yoseer. “It is music without singing – a form of rhythmic hair made for the ear, not the eye.”
Yusef got a big break after performing during a microphone night open hair in the Mill Green Mill in Chicago, 4802 N. Broadway, more than 30 years ago. He caught the attention of other artists and the media there.
“I literally presented everything,” said Yoseer.
Now, Yusef is calculated as the largest names of the age as collaborators-Drake, Chance The Rapper, Jay-Z, John Legend, The Weeknd, Common, Fall Out Boy, Jennifer Hudson and Adam Levine. It is even Cowrote “SANDCASTLES”.
“Beyonce sings a song I wrote with my daughters in the back seat of my charger – it still seems like a fantasy,” said Yoseer.
Yusef received two candidates for 2025 Grammys. While he had previously won the writing of cooperation with Majer Stars, this year was his first nomination for his operative album.
“I want another graphic. I love it. But it’s not really about it,” said Yoseer. “It comes to creating and expanding the category, expanding and enriching people’s lives.”
Youssef wants more people to learn and love a spoken word the way he has for a long time.
