Mumbai Police said Saif Ali Khan’s attacker changed his name to Vijay Das after entering India.

The arrested accused has been identified as 30-year-old Muhammad Sharif Islam Shehzad, DCP District 9 Dixit Gedam said, adding that he entered actor Saif Ali Khan’s house with the intention of robbing him.

Geidam said, prima facie, the accused is Bangladeshi, and after entering India illegally, he changed his name. “He was using Vijay Das as his current name. He came to Mumbai 5 or 6 months ago. He stayed in Mumbai for a few days and then around Mumbai. The accused was working in a housekeeping agency,” he added. .

“On January 16, at 2 am, actor Saif Ali Khan was attacked at his residence. An FIR was registered and one accused was arrested. His name is Muhammad Sharif Islam Shehzad, aged 30. He entered the house with the intention of doing so. Dixit Gedam said, Bring him to court and demand his detention. Further investigations will be conducted later. “We suspect he is of Bangladeshi origin.”

Geidam added: “There is preliminary evidence that indicates that the accused is Bangladeshi, and does not have valid Indian documents, and there are some seized items that indicate that he is Bangladeshi…”

Mumbai Police had earlier informed that the accused used multiple aliases like Vijay Das, Bijoy Das etc.

Actor Saif Ali Khan was stabbed multiple times in his plush apartment in Mumbai’s Bandra area in the early hours of Thursday by a man who broke into his house on charges of robbery.

The actor lives on the 12th floor of the ‘Satguru Sharan’ building. The entire family, Saif Ali Khan, his wife and co-star Kareena Kapoor, and their two sons J, four-year-old and eight-year-old Taimur, were in the house along with their five house helpers, police said.

Saif Ali Khan, who sustained six stab wounds in the incident that occurred around 2am, was rushed to the city’s Lilavati Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery and was declared out of danger, doctors said on Friday morning. It was reported that the actor was out of the ICU.
