BERLIN (Reuters) – German Chancellor Olaf Schulz said his talks with Vladimir Putin on Friday showed no sign of a change in the Russian president’s thinking about the war in Ukraine, but he did not hesitate to call the Kremlin. Defended critical judgment.
Speaking from a Berlin airport on Sunday before departing for the G20 summit in Brazil, Schulz said the talk with Putin was important to dispel any illusions he may have had. The West is about to withdraw its support for Ukraine.
Referring to Donald Trump’s early return to the US presidency, he added that it would not be good for Washington to be in regular contact with Putin when there is no European leader.
“The talks were very detailed but he acknowledged that there has been little change in the Russian president’s views on the war – and that is not good news,” Schulz told reporters.
