This is a good day to fill up.
Gas chains Circle K and Sheetz are both cutting prices, effective today, on gas by 40 cents per gallon as people prepare for the Thanksgiving travel season.
Circle K offers a short window, but is available on a much broader basis. On November 21, the chain will offer 40 cents off every gallon pumped from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM local time. More than 5,000 locations (including Holiday Superstores) will take advantage of the promotion.
You can find your nearest location at circuk.com/fuelday.
Sheetz is a smaller chain — and is only offering a 40 percent discount on one specific type of gas — its Unleaded 88 — but is offering the deal for a fairly long period of time. By the end of the month, drivers will be able to fill up at a discounted rate at 505 locations across the country that sell this brand of gas. (Find one near you — or along your route — on the Sheetz website.
There are some restrictions… Some states have regulations regarding gas rebates. For example, Wisconsin customers who visit Circle K will be able to save up to $4.50 with a minimum 3-gallon purchase.
This is the second year in a row that Sheetz has cut the price of Unleaded 88, its hybrid gas, made of 15% ethanol and 85% gasoline, that it says burns cleaner than pure gas. Has a high octane level. Last year, China dropped the price to $1.99 per gallon.
The Environmental Protection Agency says Unleaded 88 can be used in cars built after 2001, light-duty trucks and medium-duty SUVs. (However, some people report that they get lower gas mileage using flex fuel.)
