JAKE PAUL outlasted Mike Tyson in what hardly qualifies as a grueling session. Despite wearing a knee brace and limited mobility, Tyson was able to land left and right hands in the first scoring round. Paul landed a right, but it was Tyson’s round. Paul had worked a low-scoring second round, which he just finished.
Finding Tyson an easy target, Paul began to move more and land more punches in the third. He took the fourth, circling around Tyson and choosing his moment to step in and score.
Paul continued to box on the outside in the fifth, picking up the sluggish Tyson with a lot of jabs, but Tyson only landed rare shots. Paul wasn’t taking any chances in the sixth, going after Tyson with jabs and the occasional right, but Tyson really only boxed defensively and didn’t have the speed to pose any threat.
In the seventh, Paul seemed to back off, trying to one-up Tyson a little to lessen the sarcasm the fight had caused. He cruised through the eighth with only an exhausted Tyson, unable to score a try. Paul bowed to Tyson before the final bell.
Paul won twice by scores of 79-73 and 80-72. All of this proves that Tyson is too old to box anything but exhibitions, and Paul still needs to do something to show that he’s ranked No. 106 by BoxRec. There is no increase. Maybe one day he will face the real test but he is a valuable cash cow and as long as he can get it. Millions for a parody like this, why should he risk it?
Tyson fought like a 58-year-old ex-boxer who wasn’t. About 18 years of fighting, and some people actually were. Surprised by it!
Infuriatingly, Tyson said he would probably fight again and named Paul’s brother Logan as an opponent, which would be a test to see if he could fool all the people all the time.
