“I want to dedicate this last song to an old friend, Liam Payne,” Hemmings, 28, said during his set at the Corona Capital Festival in Mexico City on Saturday, Nov. 16, according to social media footage. I wouldn’t be here without it.”
“Sing your heart out, thank you so much. Mexico City, we love you, okay,” he added.
Hemmings then performed an emotional rendition of his solo track “Starting Line”.

We weekly confirmed on October 16 that Payne suffered a fatal fall from a third-floor hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina. An autopsy confirmed the “Tears” singer died of “multiple injuries including ‘internal and external hemorrhage'” and various drugs in his system.
5SOS performers were among the stars to pay tribute to Payne’s passing.
“We are heartbroken. We love you, Liam, and we will never forget the impact you made on our lives,” the Australian rock band wrote in a social media tribute. Really believed in us and for that we are forever grateful. We don’t know if we’ve thanked you enough.”
He added, “You had such a bright light, we always saw it. We are sad, devastated that this world has extinguished that light. We hope you will always be out there singing.”

Payne is survived by her parents, her two older sisters and her 7-year-old son, whom she shares with her ex. Cheryl Cole.
“We are heartbroken. Liam will always live on in our hearts and we will remember him for his kind, funny and brave spirit,” his family said in a statement last month. As a family we are doing our best to support each other and are asking for privacy and space during this terrible time.”
Three weeks after Payne’s death, his remains were returned to his native Britain at the conclusion of the inquest. Payne’s fans will have the opportunity to say their goodbyes and perform the last rites, the details of which have not been shared publicly.
