country star Kacey Musgraves is giving back after making a controversial comment about her hometown of Golden, Texas.
The 36-year-old singer reportedly donated $10,000 to the Alba Golden Seniors Scholarship Fund, TMZ reported on Thursday, Nov. 21.We weekly has been reached for comment.)
Musgraves’ donation apparently tops the $8,000 already raised after the Golden Sweet Potato Festival, “Golden, Texas ‘Something to Cheer For.'” concert.
On stage in Canada earlier this month, Musgraves talked about her hometown. “It’s really nothing to cheer about,” he told the crowd. After the comment went viral, the singer apologized via social media.
“I know most people who see this will have no idea what I’m talking about.[ing] About But I’m seeing some angry comments about a sarcastic, completely nonsensical joke I made about my small hometown,” he wrote. “I always try to be completely myself — for better or worse — and maybe every joke or point of view doesn’t always land. In a lot of ways I really love my Texas roots. Love Nothing but and I never meant angry.
In the second story, Musgraves tried to further explain the apparent joke.
“People were drawn to it but like … it’s such a shockingly small town that it doesn’t even have a stoplight,” he added. “There’s no music playing. Whatever.”
Musgraves didn’t stop there. He opened up about Texas in a third Instagram story.
“I love where I’m from. It’s sacred to me. Sometimes it’s a tough double,” the singer admitted. “I will always have Texas and the inspiration it gave me in my heart.”
Musgraves added that the “ridiculously small” town, as he calls it, doesn’t even have “a real grocery store.”
“It’s too small for a school or a population marker. Not much to clap for the mean – there’s not much there. Not much to clap for the mean – damn, you blinked and missed it. ” she continued in a fourth social media post. “It’s a place that doesn’t seem very special at first glance until you stop for the magic and spend time there.”
She concluded the post by telling followers that the onstage comment was not “a dig” at Golden.
“A place can have a deep meaning and its own kind of beauty, and I can be like wow. Lol,” Musgraves wrote. “This place doesn’t really have much going on.”
