“Is being an actor…?” Bigg Boss 18’s Yamini Malhotra shares a note on the harsh realities of house hunting in Mumbai

Finding a rented place in India is not an easy task. Cramped spaces, high rent, and unwanted curfews make renting an apartment a multi-headed monster that many people have to contend with. Even members of the entertainment industry are not immune to it.

Actress Yamini Malhotra, a popular name in the entertainment industry, who also participated in Bigg Boss 18, shared her harrowing experience while searching for a rented place.

The actress, known for her bold personality and vibrant presence on television, revealed the challenges she faced while trying to find a home in the city.

In a poignant post, Yamini shared how realtors and agents asked her questions like: “Are you Hindu or Muslim?” Or “Gujarati or Marwadi?” Which made her feel confused and upset.

In a post on Instagram, the actress described her ordeal and asked: “Does being an actress make me less deserving of a home?” “It is shocking that these questions still exist in 2025. Can we really call this city a city of dreams if dreams are conditional?”

She also revealed that landlords are reluctant to rent a house to her just because she is an actress. She finds it difficult to secure a place, as many homeowners do not want to rent to people from the industry.

Despite Mumbai’s reputation as a ‘city of dreams’, the actress highlighted the irony of how some dreams seem to have strings attached – especially for actors.

She has also appeared in Main Teri Tu Mera, and the 2016 Telugu film, Chuttalabbai.

Yamini entered Bigg Boss 18 as a wildcard contestant. She was discharged home within a few weeks. The reality TV show hosted by Salman Khan concluded on January 19 with Karan Vir Mehra lifting the winner’s trophy.

Earlier, Khanzadi, another contestant of Bigg Boss 17, had highlighted the challenges she faces in finding accommodation in Mumbai, citing religious discrimination as a major hurdle. She expressed her frustration and revealed that real estate owners reject her only because of her Islamic background. Khanzadi stressed the importance of finding a safe place to live, especially since she is alone in Mumbai without any family nearby.
