EDDIE Hearn admitted that while he could see the appeal of Mike Tyson’s big-time return, the former heavyweight king’s current condition meant it was difficult to sit back and watch what happened last night. After a promising start, Tyson limped around the ring for most of the eight rounds, as his lack of mobility and dry gas tank were clearly revealed.
“I didn’t really see it. I was in Katie’s changing room, she was getting stitched up. I saw the first 30 seconds, which was pretty entertaining,” Hearn said. Boxing News.
“And then after that, it’s horrible to watch. It’s hard to watch. But it’s always been like that. But it doesn’t have to be. They’re not making it for me. Look how many people came. Look how many people did. Contacted.
“So I can’t knock him. It’s just not for me. And it’s no disrespect. I love boxing. I don’t want to see Mike Tyson stuck in quicksand. And he showed incredible heart anyway. No one wants to see that happen to Mike Tyson.
It’s been a rough week for Hearn, who spent much of his Texas visit beefing with the show’s promoter while advocating for Katie Taylor. A rousing celebration after the victory confirmed Taylor’s victory in the rematch, but Eddie didn’t endear himself to the locals any more.
“I felt we deserved it. But if it was a draw and if it was 95-94 the other way around, you could see it. The emotions that came out were, I didn’t think they were. will give us,” he said.
“If we’re being honest, Katie’s not as fresh as she used to be. And she just has to grind out those victories with the biggest heart you can see in the ring. And I thought it was another great one. It was a fight. I was so happy for him when he got the decision.”
Eddie was also pleased with the cards, which tipped things in Katie’s favor despite a point deduction and some closely contested sessions.
“I thought the scorecards were at 95-94. I thought he outboxed him a little bit in the first half of the fight. I thought he outmatched him in the back end of the fight. Both fighters. Serrano is a legend of the game, he’s a great fighter.”
