Dozens of countries pulled out of the COP29 climate talks.

Representatives of the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS) walked out of the COP29 climate talks in Baku after rich nations rejected an offer of $250bn to tackle the effects of climate change.

“We cannot be expected to agree with a text that shows such contempt for our vulnerable people,” AOSIS said in a statement.

Their nations are on the front lines of global warming and AOSIS has been one of the most vocal groups calling for swift climate action.

Azerbaijan’s chief negotiator Yalchin Rafayev said the COP is “pushing towards fair and ambitious results” and a “fair and ambitious” financial agreement that takes into account the needs and priorities of developing countries in Baku.
