Cobra Kai A shocking death during the second half of Season 6 stunned fans — and Alicia Hannah Kim is opening up about how the cast reacted to the “unprecedented” episode and how it will affect her character, Sensei Kim, going forward.
“When we read that script, we were all shocked,” Hannah Kim, 37, told Exclusively. We weekly Episode 10 about the twist. “And then actually filming it was terrible.”

The surprise came in the final moments of Part 2 when Kwon Jae-Sung (Brandon H. Lee) and Axel Kovacic (Patrick Louis) engaged in a Sekai Taikai feud. After a knockdown, drag-out fight between all of the dojos, the duo faced off in a showdown that ended with Axel falling on a knife and ultimately dying from a stab wound.
This scene was a turning point in the series for both the fans and the cast.
“We all love Brendan so much and it was really emotional to see him lying there, but suddenly it felt like Cobra Kai It became really real in that sense, in that moment because there are fight scenes, people get hurt, but people get back up. But it’s just irreparable damage,” Hanna-Kim explained us “That’s it. He’s dead, so it was shocking. It’s the final cut and the call there. And it was really sad.”
As for her character, the actress believes Kwon’s death will make Kim “feel some sense” going forward.
“I think you can walk and talk all you want, but when a consequence is in your face, and she cares a lot about Kwon; he’s a difficult student for her, But it’s still one of her students,” Hannah-Kim explained. “I think, you know, as tough as she is, she sees them as people. And so it would be devastating for him to lose it.”
Hannah-Kim noted that the aftermath of Kwon’s death “will prompt her to make some very interesting choices.”
Season 6 of Cobra Kai — the final season of the hit Netflix series — introduced fans to a softer side of the usually tough Kim, especially when he and Miyagi-Do master Chozen (Yuji Okomoto) developed an unlikely romance.
“I was surprised when the exhibitors [Josh Heald and Jon Hurwitz] Told me I would take a little romantic break. My jaw hit the floor,” Hannah-Kim said of hearing she was going to get a love interest on the show. “I was like, ‘With who?! what else? And how?’ And then I got really awkward on set with Yuji. Because I was like, ‘Oh my God, it’s happening!’ But it’s really enjoyable as an actor.
Hannah-Kim described the passionate on-screen kiss that took place between her and Okumoto, revealing that extras on set had no idea it was going to happen.
“I was putting gum in my mouth first and so was Yuji,” she said with a laugh. “Because we were both married and I was like, ‘Yugi, I haven’t kissed another man in so long. Get ready!'”
But will their love go away? Fans will have to wait until part 3, but Hannah-Kim believes the pair have “a lot in common” and wouldn’t be surprised at the prospect.
“I think so Cobra Kai It’s really interesting that they imbue their villains with the potential for redemption. And like there’s a love interest and there’s comedy, he said. “Perhaps Kim has complete relaxation – who knows!”
