Chris Blame Smith Battered: Cost of War with Ramirez

Former WBO cruiserweight champion Chris Blame-Smith showed his face and injured right hand to X after his 12-round unanimous decision loss to WBA champion Gilberto ‘Zordo’ Ramirez in last Saturday’s unification clash in Riyadh. Defeated in the Latin Knight.

William Smith, 34, had a heavy bandage on his right eye still swollen shut, and his broken right thumb was covered in bandages. His left hand was fractured as well as his ribs. One thing is certain.

Blame Smith can’t continue to get into punishing fights like we saw last Saturday because his career will be over in three or four more fights. He’s already pushing the limit, close to 35, putting up a tough fight against Lawrence Okole and Isaac Chamberlain.

Should Blame Smith be kicked out?

It was a costly fight for Blame Smith (20-2, 13 KOs), as he took a beating, and many felt it was a lost cause by the eighth. He was tired, overmatched, and getting beaten by the better prepared ‘Zordo’ Ramirez (47-1, 30 KOs). Blame Smith lacked the mobility or stamina to win. If he had retired to his own corner, no one would have criticized him.

Ultimate Punch Stats

– Zurdo Ramirez connected on 223 of 786 punches for 28% accuracy.
– Blum Smith was 200 of 676 shots for 30%.

Zurdo Ramirez was a winnable fight, but not with the straightforward style used by Blame Smith. It was a fighting style that the Mexican Ramirez has always done well against during his 15-year pro career. The guy that Ramirez lost to, Dmitry Biol, was a pure boxer who outboxed him brilliantly.

Blame Smith should have at least tried to follow Biol’s blueprint instead of fighting like his past victorious opponents, Arsen Golamerian, Joe Smith, Yuneski Gonzalez, and Jesse Hart.
