Brittany Mahomes offers a sneak peek into her little girl’s nursery.
The co-owner of Kansas City Current, who partnered with Crate & Kids to design her daughter Golden Raye’s nursery, spoke to PEOPLE about what the design process looked like behind the scenes as she began creating the space.
“Our lives can be hectic, especially with two little ones running around, so our goal was to make this space calm and soothing,” Brittany told PEOPLE before welcoming her third child. “I love the relaxed, moody atmosphere and felt that the dusty rose was a peaceful palette and something to grow into.”

When it came time to divide the work, Brittany said that while her husband, Patrick Mahomes, was involved, she was the one who led the project.
“I took the lead in presenting ideas to the design team, but Patrick definitely had a say in the selection of pieces and the choices they presented to us,” Brittany explained. “We were spending a lot of time in the nursery, so we wanted to make sure it was a space we felt comfortable in.”
“We worked with Crate & Kids on the nursery because of their amazing design office services. Their team shared beautiful designs for the nursery based on the inspiration I shared with them, and we were blown away by their designs.”

Brittany also shared that her daughter’s name actually helped inspire the design of her nursery.
“The design is inspired by the baby’s name! There are lots of personal touches everywhere to go with the theme,” she said. “Crate & Kids had some great pieces that perfectly fit the vibe I was looking for.”
There were a few items that Brittany knew had to arrive at the nursery, which included a comfy nursery glider.
“After having two kids, I know how much time you’ll be spending in this chair and the need for a comfortable place to sit,” Brittany said. “I love Nyssa sherpa glider From Crate & Kids, it’s so comfortable and looks perfect in that space.”
“Plus, the matching ottoman is movable, which is essential since Patrick is much taller than me – we love being able to adjust it to fit whoever uses the chair.”

There were also some things that Brittany knew she didn’t need in the place since this was her third time.
“I’ve learned from every baby that you don’t need as much as you think, especially in the early days,” Brittany said.
“I always tell new mothers to focus on the basics for newborns – A bed For them to grow in and a glider to rock them at night, as well as smaller items like bed, diapers and underwear and to add cute clothes and larger items to the registry in appropriate sizes when they get a little older. ”
As Brittany prepares to welcome her third child, she said she “feels very prepared” and “excited about becoming a family of five.” Even her older children — Sterling Skye, 3, and Patrick “Bronzy” Lavon III, 2 — were ready to be big siblings.
“They’re both excited to have a little sister — even though Bronze is still too young to fully understand it, he can’t wait,” Brittany said. “Sterling is truly the best big sister, and she loved going into the baby’s room to play with new toys.”

The famous couple shared that although they were able to choose a name for their daughter “pretty quickly,” they struggled for a minute about a middle name — despite Sterling’s suggestions.
“Sterling brought up names,” Brittany revealed. “She wants us to call her Elsa, but we won’t.”
