In a devastating blow to Liverpool, English Premier League club Arsenal have reportedly agreed personal terms with Real Sociedad’s Martin Zobimendi.

Zobimendi was the subject of a summer bid from Liverpool, but in the end the Spain international decided against a move to Anfield.

He now appears closer than ever to a move to the Premier League, but to Arsenal rather than the Reds.

according to Football transfersThe 25-year-old midfielder has agreed personal terms with the north Londoners, and the newspaper reports that a January move is not out of the question either.

Having already signed Mikel Merino from La Real, Arsenal can rest assured that the settlement process should be much easier for a player with a clear and obvious connection to his boyhood club.

Zobimendi’s release clause has been set at €60/£52m, and it is understood this will not be an issue for Arsenal.

Whether it is this month or the summer when the player decides to make the jump from La Liga to the Premier League, he will add some big bite as well as creativity to Arsenal’s midfield.

It’s a compelling argument that Mikel Arteta needs a striker as a priority rather than prospecting for gold at one of his old clubs, however, if Arsenal’s board are willing to back their manager in the transfer market, so will the club’s fans. “To trust the process,” as it were.

Despite the injuries, the team is still showing signs of improvement in terms of putting Arteta’s ideas into practice, and if they can find the kind of consistency that Liverpool have shown during the 2024/25 season, a first Premier League title under the Spaniard should be anything but. Don’t be too far away.
