After 10 rounds of intense back-and-forth action, Amanda Serrano once again found herself on the wrong end of a decision against her nemesis, Katie Taylor. The surprisingly well-matched couple was spotted for the first time on April 30, 2022 at Madison Square Garden, New York. In a perfect venue, a melting pot of fans, their styles combined for a 20-minute battle.
On this occasion, Taylor won a split decision. Another burst the second they met, but this time, it was across Serrano’s right eyelid. Competing as the support act for Jack Paul (Serrano’s promoter) and Mike Tyson, it was even closer. All three judges scored it 95-94 in favor of the worse brawler.
Katie was deducted a point in round eight by referee Jon Schurrell for head butting. In fact, his scalp was a point of contention all night as the orthodox and southpaw moved in for every two-minute session. All of Katy’s undisputed super lightweight titles went home with her. It was Amanda’s first title fight since her multi-belt effort at featherweight, defeating Daniela Ramos in 12, three-minute rounds.
It was unusual for women’s boxing, but she wants to return to a similar time frame for Ireland v Puerto Rico part three. Taylor tentatively agreed. That format alone would eliminate Katy’s true strength: the quick burst that served her well at Texas and most of her eight-year career at the top.
As for Serrano? He sent this message to X, revealing the true extent of such damage that lesser creatures would reduce.
I have never been a fouling fighter and I have always given it my all.
I’m not used to talking to other fighters or involving myself with them.
Fight the praise talk. I always stay in my lane and do me.Love me or hate me you will respect me!
