California senator-elect Adam Schiff defended his claims of Russian collusion years later during a recent appearance on CNN’s “State of the Union.”
Host Jake Tapper asked Schiff Sunday about President-elect Donald Trump’s recent controversial Cabinet nominations, such as former presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz. Although Tepper referred to these nominees as “disruptive,” he wondered if there was any self-awareness in Washington about influencing them.
“You were condemned in the House last year for, in his view, holding positions of power during the Trump presidency as chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, and, according to him, ‘collusion between Trump “There was evidence that the campaign and Russia were abused,” Tepper said , about that, according to the Mueller report, an overstatement? “First of all, it wasn’t an overstatement,” the chef replied. “There is evidence of collusion. Trump campaign managers were meeting with Russian intelligence and giving them internal polling data, just to give you one example. And the Mueller report says it all.”
“It says, ‘The investigation did not establish that members of the Trump campaign conspired with or cooperated with the Russian government in election interference activities,’ which doesn’t mean they didn’t.” That the meetings didn’t happen, but they didn’t find proof of that,” Tepper followed up.

“Mueller says the same thing. He says, ‘The fact that we didn’t find proof beyond a reasonable doubt doesn’t mean there was no evidence of conspiracy or collusion,'” Schiff said.
In 2023, Schiff was censured by the House of Representatives on a party-line vote over his repeated claims that Trump’s 2016 campaign colluded with Russia to win the presidential election. He was also removed from the House Intelligence Committee earlier that year.
His claims stemmed from the infamous Steele dossier that claimed Trump’s team colluded with Russia and that the Kremlin had blackmail material against Trump. In 2019, special counsel Robert Mueller later concluded in his report that there was no evidence of Trump colluding with Russia.

The Steele dossier was further discredited in 2021 when Special Counsel John Durham accused Russian analyst Ivan Danchenko of making false statements to the FBI, believed to be a primary source for the dossier. .
