Shawn Mendes Speaks Of Having ‘Unresolved Feelings’ For An Ex While Dating Someone New
During the candid conversation, which airs in full on December 12, Mendes details a recent romantic relationship that became estranged after he shared his intentions to meet with a former love.
“I’m with someone,” Mendes tells Mayer on the latter’s SiriusXM show, “New Light.”
“Two days before going to hang with my ex, [I] express I’m going to hang with my ex because I have unresolved feelings,” he continued.
Mendes made no mention of a name, per E! News, but signs seemingly point to Carpenter as the person he was dating at the time. The two were spotted together on multiple occasions beginning in February of 2023.
About one month later, Mendes was photographed at Coachella in Palm Springs partying it up with Camila Cabello, his famous ex, while kissing one another more than once.

Carpenter May Have Had A ‘Taste’ For Mendes In The Past, According To Her Album
Carpenter, similar to Mendes, has never openly shared details about a fling with the Canadian heartthrob, but fans feel she has hinted at their romance in her music.
In “Taste,” the third single from Carpenter’s Grammy-nominated “Short ‘n Sweet” album, the blonde starlet croons how she still lingers in a former flame’s memory to their new partner.
“You’ll just have to taste me when he’s kissing you,” she sings during its chorus.
Another album cut, “Coincidence,” makes a more distinct mention of someone spending time in Palm Springs with “the girl they outgrew.”

Mendes Feels He And Cabello Still ‘Really Know Each Other’s Hearts’
Mendes has opened up previously about his on-again, off-again relationship with Cabello and still warmly refers to her as someone close to him.
As reported on The Blast, Mendes was open and frank about his feelings for the “Havana” singer during another recent interview.
“We haven’t been the closest the last couple of years,” he explained, “but I think we really know each other. We really know each other’s hearts. So even when all of the sound and all the noise [of our past] is happening, we can see through each other’s both pretty easily, and it’s just nice to have that.”
This October, Mendes took to Twitter for a personal follow-up to another appearance where he shared details of his relationship with Cabello.

Cabello Had A ‘Fun Time’ With Mendes During Their Coachella Reunion
Cabello rarely shares her thoughts about the time she spent with Mendes. The two made their public debut as a couple in October 2019 but were friends well before then.
Still, when she does speak of their connection – as she did on a podcast appearance earlier in the year – Cabello appears to have no ill will toward their former relationship.
“I will always care about him and love him. He’s such a good person,” she shared.
“I’m lucky ’cause some people have exes who are awful, and he is not. He’s a really kind, good person.”
Even their most recent breakup didn’t seem to come from anything negative, with Cabello sharing they were simply in different places in their lives.
“It wasn’t even like a decision [for us], she noted.

“[It was] just kind of like, ‘Yeah, this doesn’t really fit [anymore], It took us both less time to say, ‘We don’t really need to try so hard to make it work. It’s all good, let’s move on.’”
The Big ‘Lesson’ Mendes Learned After Being Hung Up Over His Ex
Looking back on his experience with his exes, Mendes was reflective in knowing that while he meant no harm, his actions still caused pain for one – or both – of his former partners.
“The biggest lesson I’ve learned is no one gets out of this life without getting hurt,” he surmised, “and no one gets out of this life without hurting someone.”
