Authorities in a New York City neighborhood have arrested a suspect in an apparently random facial slashing attack.
The New York City Police Department (NYPD) confirmed the arrest of 25-year-old Joshua Zinberg to Fox News Digital on Thursday afternoon.
Zenberg, who lives on New York City’s Upper West Side, was identified by his mother, who recognized him in surveillance footage released by police, authorities said.
He was charged with second-degree attempted murder, first- and second-degree assault and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, according to the NYPD.

On Thursday, footage obtained by Fox News Digital showed Zenberg leaving the police perimeter. In the footage, the 25-year-old can be seen spitting at reporters during a vulgar rant.

Zinberg was arrested after his mother confirmed to police that she recognized her son in security footage after the incident.
In surveillance footage obtained by Fox News Digital, Zinberg is seen running through the streets of the Big Apple with a knife in hand.

Authorities previously confirmed that a 55-year-old tourist was attacked while walking the streets of New York City in broad daylight.
The tourist’s left ear and left cheek were cut during the horrific attack, the NYPD said. After the attack, the victim was shifted to the hospital.

The killings on Wednesday came two days after a knife-wielding man was accused of killing three people on Monday.
Police arrested 51-year-old Ramon Rivera, a career criminal, earlier this week after he allegedly went on a rampage. Unprovoked stabbing throughout Manhattan.

Rivera, who is homeless, has eight prior arrests and was released from prison just weeks before the deadly knife attacks.
