Lewis is No. 2 overall. ESPN’s Recruiting Database. The quarterback was originally the top recruit in the 2026 class but was reclassified to the 2025 class in January.
Lewis, 6-foot-1, 195 pounds, is in line to succeed the prolific Sanders as Colorado’s current quarterback, as Sanders is poised to be the top pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
“Obviously, it was a big deal for me to succeed Schedvor, just seeing what he’s done with Colorado and what he’s turned it into. It’s definitely a blessing to have him in this position. “I couldn’t beat it,” Lewis said during the show.
The surprise team automatically moved into the bye region in the latest College Football Playoff rankings
Lewis said the reason he chose Colorado is because Deion Sanders said the best players are going to play, giving Lewis a chance to potentially start as a freshman.
Colorado getting Lewis’ commitment means the Buffaloes are unlikely to aggressively recruit through the transfer portal.
Sanders’ name has been in NFL head coaching rumors, but Lewis’ commitment indicates the Colorado head coach won’t be leaving for the NFL anytime soon.
Lewis is from Carrollton, Georgia, and recently took an unofficial visit to the Georgia Bulldogs along with showing interest in Indiana before committing to Colorado.

Colorado is currently 8-2 and on track to be in the College Football Playoff. If the No. 16-ranked Buffaloes win over Kansas, along with No. 12 BYU’s loss to No. 21 Arizona State, it would give the Buffaloes a 12-game lead.
The Big 12 lead would put Colorado in automatic bid territory. It’s up to the committee to name the Buffaloes the No. 4 seed, but they’ll still need to win the Big 12 title game to ensure a spot.
