Cyrus, 63, defended the “Texas Hold’Em” icon via Instagram on Wednesday, Nov. 20, hours before this year’s CMA Awards ceremony kicked off at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee.
“Congratulations to all the @cma nominees!” He started his post. “I’m so happy and proud to see country music opening its doors and format for all people, all styles to get involved.”
He tagged in again. Lil Nas Xwith whom he won a CMA Award in 2019 for their megahit “Old Town Road,” and wrote, “You might not have seen it. [the musicians receive the award] Because they didn’t air it on the show. I’m surprised @beyoncé wasn’t nominated? His album was brilliant… his single was reign. But she knows this. It does not require a trophy or permission from the CMA. or their approval from a judge.
Cyrus ended her headline with a quote. Muhammad Ali. “When you throw them out … you don’t need a judge,” he wrote.
Beyonce, 43, released her eighth studio album, Cowboy Carterearlier this year. It pays tribute to his Texas roots as well as the extraordinary contributions of black musicians to country music. “Beyoncé should host a live show on all platforms at the same time as the CMAs. Or release videos for the album the minute the CMAs start,” one X user wrote at the time.

Written by “I’m proud to be the first black woman with a number one single on the Hot Country Songs chart.”
Meanwhile, Beyoncé broke a record earlier this month when she became the most-nominated artist in Grammy Awards history, scoring 11 nominations this year — including best country album and best country duo/group performance for “II Most Wanted”.
