Gracie CashmanDaughter of New York Yankees GM Brian Cashmanwas surprised by a marriage proposal that really knocked it out of the park.
Gracie, 26, said “yes” to having a boyfriend Brian Mary The couple’s respective families popped the question hidden in the theater’s opera boxes in the middle of a stage in Chicago on Sunday, Nov. 17.
Now, in an exclusive interview with We weeklyGracie is sharing how her new fiance pulled off a big trick.
“I knew his family was in town for his little sister’s birthday,” she said. “He told me we were going to brunch and then dinner. I thought we spent the weekend with his family, so I had no plans. He said we should have brunch. Had to stop at a bakery to get a birthday cake before. On the way there, we didn’t go to a bakery, we went to a theater that I had never been to.
Gracie continued, “When we walked in, it was completely empty. The stage and everything. He walked me up on stage, got down on one knee and asked me to marry him.
The location of the proposal was chosen by Stute for a specific reason, dating back to his days at St. Luke’s School in New Canaan, Connecticut.
“We met in high school Legally Blonde: The Musicalthat’s why he proposed on a stage,” explained Gracie. “I was playing Elle and he was playing Warner. We started dating our junior year of high school, his senior year. We broke up towards the end of college and then got back together when we both moved to Chicago.
He added, “We weren’t very good at breaking up anyway. We were talking pretty constantly.”
After the proposal, both families—including Gracie’s parents, who are divorced, and brother, Teddy — emerged and posed for photos with the newly engaged couple before the entire crew loaded into a trolley — “a very Chicago thing,” Gracie joked — filled with fireball shooters.
“We were laughing,” Gracie recalled, “because on the trolley we were all like, ‘Oh my God, it’s 11 in the morning, but should we do fireball shots? Sure.'”
Stout proposed with the ring of Gracie’s grandmother, Gracie’s mother’s late mother. Mary.
“She died when I was 2. My mom had her engagement ring and she let my boyfriend use it,” Gracie said.
Of course, now the wedding planning begins. But Gracie – who hosts. The story of my numberavailable on the Gotham Sports App. – urged her friends and family to exercise some patience when planning the big day.
“I think we’ll have to choose a date far in the future,” Gracie explained. “I think we’ll pick a date in the winter. I’ve always wanted a winter wedding. I think two years from now in the winter will be plenty of time for people to figure it out.
As for the location, Gracie indicated that she has “always wanted to get married abroad” and has her sights set on one country in particular.
“I’ve always wanted to do Ireland,” she said. “I haven’t been to Ireland in years, but my dad is 100% Irish. My mom is over 50% Irish. So, I’m over 75% Irish. We’re a pretty traditional Irish Catholic family in many ways. I Would love to do it there, but obviously we’ll see.
