Salah is “proud” after becoming the first Liverpool player to score 50 goals in Europe

Mohamed Salah spoke of his pride after becoming the first Liverpool player to score 50 goals in European competition in their 2-1 win over Lille.

Egyptian striker Salah scored his 50th goal in the first half for the Reds, who won with a Harvey Elliott goal after Jonathan David equalized for the visitors, who were down to 10 men.

“I hope I’m not the last,” Salah told Amazon Prime [to reach 50 goals]. I didn’t focus on the record before the game.

“It’s something I’m very happy and proud of, especially because we won the game, which is the most important thing.”

In addition to Salah’s historic goal, his 23rd goal of the season in all competitions, the Reds celebrated reaching the last 16 of the Champions League where they won their seventh match out of seven ahead of the final round of matches next week.

“We got the ball and Curtis,” Salah added in his impressive finish in the first half [Jones] I played the ball very well in the end and was able to score.

“They were not stopped but they resorted to counterattacks and were able to score. A clean sheet is very important for us and our defence.”

Substitute Elliott was the hero of the night after his long-range shot reached the bottom corner via a deflection, and Salah was pleased to see the youngster making an impact after a difficult run of injuries.

Salah said about his colleague: “He suffered injuries at the beginning of the season and it was difficult for him. I am always here for him, he is a great boy.”

“When you want to win the biggest tournaments, you need a great team.”

Elliot: I’m not leaving

Elliott has been linked with a move away from Anfield in search of first-team football and decided to use a pointed celebration to suggest he was muting the hype.

“It’s very clear to be honest – I’m not leaving,” the midfielder said. This is my team and my club. I’m a big fan and we’re doing great so far this season.

“I didn’t really watch the conversation, but my friends messaged me and called me about stuff.

He added: “This will always happen in January, especially after being away for a long time and not playing as much as I want, but that’s football.”

Elliott added of his match-winning moment: “It’s hard to put into words. All my life I’ve dreamed of playing football in the Champions League, not just for my childhood club, but playing here at Anfield in front of our fans and especially scoring is a painful moment for me.

David: Liverpool is the best team in the world

Lille’s top scorer, David, was proud of his side’s efforts at Anfield, but said they were the best team in the world at the moment.

“A very good team,” the Canadian striker said. I think they might be the best team in the world right now.

“Tonight is another goal [for me]. “I’m happy that I was able to score, but we couldn’t get the three points.”
