Undersea cable cut between Germany and Finland

Germany and Finland say they are “deeply concerned” after the undersea cable connecting the countries was cut.

The foreign ministers of the two countries said in a joint statement: “Our European security is threatened not only by Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, but also by hybrid warfare by malicious elements.”

“These types of breaks do not occur in these waters without external influences,” a Senia spokesman told local media.

The failure did not affect internet traffic between the two countries because other cable routes were available, said Samuli Bergström, a cybersecurity expert for the Finnish government.
