The sister of former super bantamweight boxer Stuart McFadyen has paid tribute to her brother who died aged 42 earlier this month.

McFadyen, who lived in Cullen, began his professional boxing career on 21 July 2006 with a first-round stoppage win over Neil Reid in Altrincham. Three years later, ‘The Burnley Banger’ defeated Sid Razzaq on points in his 14th and final bout in his home town over four rounds. In his sixth bout, McFadyen upset Tasif Khan on points at Wigan. And in March 2009, he knocked out Stuart Hall over six rounds. Hall would go on to win British, Commonwealth and world bantamweight titles.

“Stewart sadly passed away in his sleep,” Kristen McFadyen said. Boxing News.

“We are devastated as a family and this has left a huge hole in our lives that will never be filled. Stewart was loved so deeply and dearly and if love could have saved him he would have lived forever.

“We will always be proud of what Stewart achieved in such a short time, his passion and dedication inside the ring was inspiring, outside the ring he was a loving badass! We will miss each and every one of him. Missing his sweet character, big cheeky smile and infectious laugh, may he rest in eternal peace until we meet again.

A celebration of Stuart’s life will be held on Monday, November 25 at Burnley Cemetery.
