The Philadelphia 76ers front office bolstered the team’s roster in the offseason by adding Paul George and other key players.
The addition of draft pick Jared McCann also contributed to the Sixers’ high expectations heading into the 2024-25 season.
But that hope quickly faded once the regular season ended. The Sixers have a disappointing 2-12 record and are at the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings.
Joel Embiid recently became the talk of the town after he was suspended earlier this month following a locker room confrontation with a reporter.

The Sixers’ starting center has played in just four games this season, and he took issue with a recent report that revealed some details about a 76ers team meeting shortly after Philly’s loss to the Miami Heat.
“Whoever leaked it is a real piece of s—,” Embiid said.
76ers’ Paul George slams boos on return to Los Angeles: ‘It’s stupid’
The team meeting came after head coach Nick Nurse suggested there was some confusion about the team’s goals. Sixers guard Tyrese Maxey also confronted Amed about being late for meetings, with the 2023 NBA MVP reportedly late “for everything.”
Maxey also reportedly expressed concern about the negative impact Embiid’s laziness would have on the team.
After the Sixers’ latest loss on Wednesday, Embiid made it clear that many topics were covered during the meeting, but he also acknowledged the need to improve.
“We talked about a lot of things,” Embiid said. “I don’t want to go into detail. But the whole thing, that part of it, took maybe 40 seconds. But this is Joel Embiid, so things are always blown out of proportion. Whatever it is, though. I will take I am the cause of everything, so I think I will be responsible for everything.
“There was nothing malicious said. I love it when people tell me I’m not doing well and when I need to get better. I need to get better. I need to work, Which I’m going to do.”
There were some positives from the Sixers’ 111-117 loss to the Grizzlies earlier this week. The game marked the first time this season that Embiid, George and Maxey were on the floor at the same time.

However, George sprained his knee during the game. The timetable for George’s return is unclear. The Sixers host the Brooklyn Nets in NBA Cup group play on Friday.
