It shook an earthquake of 7.6 the Caribbean Sea, southwest of the Kayman Islands, on Saturday, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS), and urged some islands and countries people near the coastal line to move inside in a tsunami.
Usgs said the earthquake was hit at 6:23 pm local time in the middle of the sea and was a depth of 10 km. Its center is 209 km southwest of Georgetown in the Kayman Islands.
The American National Tsunami Warning Center said there is no tsunami alert to the main righteousness of the United States, but it issued a Tsunami consultant to Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Island that was later canceled.
The sound of warnings in the northwestern Puerto Rico region caused people to leave the coastal areas and create a dense traffic, according to the local media.
The Kayman Islands urged the risk management of the population near the coast to move internally and to a higher floor. He said the wave is expected to rise from 0.3 to one meter.
Puerto Rico Jennifer Gonzalez Colon said in a statement that she was in contact with emergency agencies after consulting a tsunami, but she did not recommend anyone leaving the coast.
The Dominican government also issued a tsunami alert and recommended the population on the coast to high areas “more than 20 meters of height and 2 kilometers internal.” But later canceled the alert.
The Cuban government asked people to leave the areas on the beach. The Ministry of Pahama Islands also issued a Tsunami consultant, but urged its residents to be “vigilant” only.
Honduran authorities said that there are no immediate reports of harm, but they urged the residents to stay away from the beaches.
Later, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration of the United States government said, “Tsunami waves that reach one to three meters above the tide level along some coast of Cuba.”
“The actual capacities in the coast may differ from the expected capacity due to uncertainty in the expected and local features,” the agency said in the report.
